Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, on Wednesday, says he has reached an agreement with Chief of Army Staff, Lt.Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, for Nigerian Army to withdraw its military personnel from the troubled Okuama community in Ughelli South local government area of Delta State.

BIGPEN NIGERIA (https://bigpenngr.com) reports that the governor made the disclosure in a press release, saying that the Army has agreed to withdraw its officers and men from Okuama with effect from today, May 8, 2024.

This development comes after a military siege that lasted for several weeks, following the killing of 17 soldiers in the community on March 14.

The Governor expressed gratitude to the President, the Chief of Army Staff, and the hierarchy of the Nigerian Army for their understanding and cooperation, which led to a peaceful resolution of the crisis.

He also thanked members of the National Assembly, traditional rulers, and other leaders who supported the state during the crisis.

According to the governor, with the withdrawal of the military, the people of Okuama can now safely return to their homes and begin the process of rebuilding their lives.

The press release reads in full: “My dear good people of Delta State, I have the pleasure to announce to you that we have achieved a breakthrough in the deadlock at Okuama.
