Factional speaker, Victor Oko Jumbo

A new twist has emerged in the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, as an unconfirmed report indicates that a factional speaker, Victor Oko Jumbo, has emerged in the State House of Assembly.

Jumbo, representing Bonny Constituency, is among the four legislators loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara since the crisis began in October 2023.

Although the state government has not made an official statement, sources close to the government have confirmed Jumbo’s emergence as factional speaker.

According to an anonymous source, Jumbo was elected by his three colleagues during a sitting in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

Pundits say the development raises questions about the legitimacy of the new factional speaker and the implications for the already polarized political landscape in Rivers State.

As the crisis deepens, “political observers are watching closely to see how this new development will play out”.
