Ahead the November 11 governorship election in Bayelsa state, a chieftain of APC, High Chief ‘Gen’. Charles Kurobo, has expressed hope that the candidate of the All Progressive Congress APC, Timipre Sylva, would carry the day.

Kurobo, in a statement on Thursday, urged Bayelsans from all works of life especially aggrieved stalwarts from different parts of the State, to bury the hatchet irrespective of various individual interest and make a right choice of the new helmsman.

He said that Bayelsans are longing for change in the economic stability, security, human capital development, infrastructural development, standard and adequate health care for all in the state.

Kurobo noted that the ruling national parry, APC was better positioned to offer the people of the state that change they are yearning for.

He expressed dismay over the situation where some elders and leaders of the party are still sitting on the fence at the dying minutes of the election when they ought to mobilize for the party’s candidate.

He said; “It will be better for the vast majority of Bayelsans longing for change, economic stability, security, human capital development, infrastructural development, standard and adequate health care for all not just those who can afford foreign trips for medical reasons and many other benefits too numerous to mention. Such of which will be to the best interest and image of our great party the APC.

“I use this medium to call on the national leadership of our great party to vehemently intervene in the situation where the party hierarchies in the Bayelsa APC have adopted a sitting-on-the-fence style of participation while followers watch with keen interest.

‘This is not the way to go! We have a younger breed of politicians who look up to party elders and chieftains and the current body language of some of our party leaders is truly not encouraging.

“What personal interest will surpass that of the party wining an election? Where is the loyalty to the party or party is supremacy ideology imbedded in us as party members and elites? How can we be sitting on the fence when the time to join forces is now, for this coming Saturday’s Governorship election?

“We must enshrine peace within ourselves and must understand that the maintenance of peace and security is a cross cutting issue that is critical to achieving all the Sustainable Development Goals.

“Some aspects involved in the promotion and maintenance of peace and security include the political affairs and the important actors especially some of our party elites from Southern Ijaw because they are leaders and peacemakers, who will shape the course of peace building.

“One of the main reasons why conflict arises in our society is due to a lack of cooperation and understanding between people and interest. Often times, people are quick to judge and attack those who are different from them, which can lead to tension and conflict.

“In order to achieve peace, we must shift our societal values towards cooperation and understanding. This means promoting tolerance, empathy, and mutual respect between our differences and values. We need to learn to celebrate our differences rather than fear them. By doing so, we can create a more harmonious society where people will work together towards a common goal when we (the APC) win the election on Saturday, November 11”.
