Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara

The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reacted to the move by members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to impeach him.

Governor Fubara spoke on the development at the complex of the Rivers State House of Assembly on Monday.

The Governor, who was at the complex following a fire outbreak there in the early hours of Monday, said he has not committed any offence to warrant impeachment.

He said: “Let them come out and tell Rivers people the offence I have committed to warrant any impeachment.

This came as police operatives on Monday assaulted the governor by pouring him water.

Footages on social media showed the Governor was walking down the Rivers Assembly Complex escorted by supporters when he received assaults from the police officers stationed at the complex.

The complex was thrown into chaos as gunshots greeted the move to impeach the governor barely six months into his administration.

Governor Fubara had arrived at the Assembly complex with dozens of his supporters amid reports that lawmakers were set to commence impeachment proceedings against him.

Video footage of the incident shows police officers using water to disperse the crowd, including the governor.
