BREAKING: Rivers Boils As Gov Fubara, Wike’s Men Clash Over Controversial Impeachment Plot
There is palpable tension in Rivers state as loyalists of Governor Siminalaye Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesome Wike, are up in arms over plot by a quarter of the State House of Assembly to impeach the governor.
BIGPEN NIGERIA (https://bigpenngr.com) reports that the plot took a twist Monday morning as security men took over the assembly complex which was earlier torched weekend.
It was gathered that some members reportedly loyal to former governor Wike had initiated impeachment notice against the incumbent Governor, Fubara.
This came as leader of the House, Hon Edison Ehie and those loyal to the governor were suspended in a session presided over by the Speaker, Rt Hon Martins Amaewhule and attended by a good number of members.
The suspension was perfected by 24 of the 32 member of the House thus paving the way for the impeachment plot to scale through.
Multiple reports claimed that the explosion that occurred in the Assembly on Sunday night was alleged to have been a ploy to stop the lawmakers from gaining access to the Assembly on Monday.
But some lawmakers were said to have made their way into the House as early as 7 a.m. and immediately commenced plenary where they all signed the impeachment notice on the governor.
The road leading to the House of Assembly complex particularly Moscow Road axis has been barricaded by armed policemen. Gunshots were also fired by security men to disperse a crowd of protesters who were mainly Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) members.
Meanwhile, Governor Fubara has reportedly sacked his Chief of Staff, Chidi Amadi and Chief Security Officer of Government House , Promise wosu as well as the Government House Camp Commander reportedly over the development.
Though details of their sack are still sketchy, sources said the trios are former governor Wike’s men in the Fubara administration.
