The Delta State Government on Friday strongly refuted rumours of a supposed ‘cold war’ between the current Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, and his predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa.

BIGPEN NIGERIA (https://bigpenngr.com) reports that the state government dismissed the reports as baseless and a figment of the imagination of the reporter who published the article in Daily Times.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, issued a statement in Asaba, firmly rejecting the notion of any disagreement between the two political figures.

He stated that the Governor and Senator Okowa “enjoy the warmest of relationships”, and described the publication as a “total falsehood” and an unnecessary attempt at creating unneeded sensationalism.

“We have read with great dismay, the unsavoury and sensational report on an imaginary cold war between Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, as published by Daily Times Newspapers,” said Ahon.

The Chief Press Secretary lambasted the newspaper for its failure to uphold the standards of journalism ethics, noting the absence of any attempts by the reporter to seek clarification on the supposed disagreements between the two leaders.

Ahon stated that the Governor holds his predecessor, Senator Okowa, in high regard and respects his leadership.

He dismissed allegations of disagreements over the appointment of two commissioners as untrue, asserting that the Governor would make these appointments at the appropriate time.

Ahon further called on the Daily Times to retract the misleading publication, citing it as a clear misrepresentation of the facts.

“We, therefore, call on the said newspaper to withdraw the said publication as it is a clear misrepresentation of facts,” Ahon added.
