Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, has broken his silence on his rumoured presidential ambition.

BIGPENNGR reports that Emefiele spoke on Saturday in a terse message on the backdrop of reports that he had picked the presidential form of the APC through proxies groups.

The chief banker of the nation has been under fire since news filtered in on Friday that he joined the 2023 Presidential race, obtaining the forms of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Prior to Friday, the CBN governor neither confirmed nor denied his interest in succeeding President Muhammadu Buhari.

A representatives of a coalition of three groups — “rice farmers”, “Emefiele Support Group” and “Friends of Godwin Emefiele” — were said to have picked the form on Friday at the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja for him.

The development has generated flurry of reactions on social media with many Nigerians calling on him to step down because of the position that he holds.

But reacting to claims making the round about the supposed presidential ambition and collection of APC form, Emefiele admitted that there has been growing interest of those calling on him to run.

He said that if he eventually decided to run after getting directives from God in the next few day, he would purchase the presidential nomination form with his hard-earned savings from over 35 years of banking leadership.

Emefiele wrote; “I am humbled by the growing interest of those asking that I run for the Office of President in the 2023 general elections. I have not come to that decision.

“I note and salute the sacrifices of those farmers and patriots going as far as raising personal funds and offering me Presidential Nomination Forms.

“I thank them most profusely.

“However, should I answer their calls and decide to seek presidential nomination, I will use my own hard-earned savings from over 35 years of banking leadership to buy my own Nomination Forms, without proxies in an open and transparent manner in full compliance with the laws and Constitution of The Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“And should I not run for elected office, I will continue to serve and sacrifice for the good people of Nigeria under the able leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari. This is a serious decision that requires God’s Divine intervention in the next few days. The Almighty will so direct”, he prayed.
