Former governor of Rivers State and current Minister for Transportation, Hon Rotimi Amaechi and several prominent chieftains of the All Progressive Congress, (APC), were mobbed Saturday afternoon by surging crowd at the ongoing national convention of the ruling party.

BIGPENNGR reports that the development stemmed from rowdiness of the convention which had a group of cutlass and sticks wielding youths who are threatening to unleash mayhem outside the Eagle Square, venue of the convention.

Amaechi and other bigwigs of the party who came late afternoon had a difficult times gaining access to the event as irate youths formed human barricade at the various gates.

‘It took the intervention of combined team of security agents to shield the former governor of River State, Hon Rotimi Amaechi and bring him into the venue.

‘The Minister of Transportation who arrived the venue around 2.30pm was held outside the entrance gate for more than 30 minutes alongside other important dignitaries before he decided to take the bull by the horn, abandoned his official cars and walk inside the venue.

‘He however, met a brickwall at the entrance as crowd could not bulge to allow the human wall security barricade, resulting in his spending over 10 minutes before more security agents came to his rescue.
