Kankara Schoolboys Kidnap: Garba Shehu Apologises Over Number Gaffe

Mallam Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari, has regretted the misleading figures he gave on the abducted students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State.
BIGPENNGR.COM understands Mallam Shehu was said to have said only ten students were unaccounted for at the time the kidnap took place in an interview granted the Hausa Service of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
He would later post on his verified Twitter handle that he never meant the missing boys had been found with his assertions.
The development had attracted barrage of criticism against the presidential spokesman with many social media commenters describing him as being insensitive
However, following the backlashes, Shehu, on Friday evening took to his Twitter handle render apologies to Nigerians, blaming the inaccurate figure he gave about the number of abducted students on briefing he got ostensibly from an informed sources.
He wrote; “I apologize for the incorrect communication citing that only 10 students were kidnapped at the science school, Kankara.
“This communication of numbers was provided by persons that should ideally know. These numbers were seen to conflict with what was available at that time.
“Please understand that this communication was in no way done to downplay the seriousness of the situation.
“Please accept my sincere apologies on this matter as we continue to move our great Nation Nigeria forward. Thank you”.
