The ever busy Warri-Benin expressway is set to wear a new look, with Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, on Friday saying he has secured assurance of the Federal Ministry of Works to move in and effect major repair and construction work on the road.

BIGPEN had reported that the ever-busy Warri-Sapele-Benin highway have become a death trap for motorists and commuters. It is one of the major road in the South-South geopolitical zone linking the Northern part of the country.

The highways which is a federal government road, has been in a deplorable state over the years with many lives and properties loss to its disrepair state. The road connects four oil-producing states namely Edo, Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers to the north.

Recalls Omo-Agege recently spoke about the poor state of the road in the floor of the senate, lamenting that the current state of the road, is nothing to write home about.

However, following constructive and fruitful engagements between the Deputy President of the Senate and Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), the road would soon be fixed.

Omo-Agege’s Special Adviser on Media Matters, Yomi Odunaga, who confirmed this in a statement, said that the deplorable state of the Warri-Benin expressway have had debilitating effects on people and businesses operating in large parts of the Niger Delta.

According to the statement, the Federal Ministry of Works is now finalising preparations to undertake major works on this very important national corridor.

The Deputy Senate President, however, commended the Minister’s responsiveness, understanding and assurances on the need to urgently overcome the obvious and very serious challenges that the present state of the road poses to citizens, businesses, security and by implication, the national economy.

“It is necessary to thank our people once again sincerely for their continuing patience amidst the hardships arising from the poor state of the road.

“The DSP, the Honourable Minister and other leaders and stakeholders will continue to work diligently together to ensure that work on the road is done unhindered and properly.

“He feels their pains and humbly appeals to our people for more patience, as he will be constantly guided by their best interests and the greater good of the nation”.
