The newly appointed Director General of Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan Campaign Organisation, Mr. Charles Mallam-Obi, says he knew his principal would deliver the dividends of democracy to his Detlta South Senatorial District constituents as he had always done.

Mallam-Obi spoke while reacting to his appointment on his Facebook page, saying he was shock that the former governor picked him out of the crowd to pilot the affairs of his campaign for the 2019 senatorial election.

BigPen Online recalls that Mallam-Obi’s appointment which was made public on Wednesday have triggered widespread jubilations and positive reactions on social media with many saying Uduaghan’s demonstration would inspire more youths to take up leadership roles.

Uduaghan, prior to his senatorial ambition had often said he has dedicated part of his
life after office as governor to mentoring young entrepreneurs and youths with leadership skills.

An elated Mallam-Obi said that he never envisaged playing any lead role in the campaign but expressed optimism that Uduaghan has a lot to offer young people and his constituents.

According to him: “When I set out on this journey to follow Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, I never envisaged playing any lead role. I just knew I could trust the man I had decided to follow. I knew he had a thing for the young, and for my people. I also knew he had something for ideas.

“All of these I knew from the programmes he was passionate about when he was the governor; from the free maternal health care program which enabled our pregnant mothers to have access to proper medicare and free medicare for children under 5 years, to the free education for primary and secondary school pupils.

“He also initiated the Uduaghan bus program, which changed the face of transportation in the state. He gave scholarship to all first class graduates of Delta origin. He was a darling of the comrade community. The scourge of liver and kidney failure made him subsidize dialysis so much that people who had kidney/liver challenges started moving back to Delta state. Uduaghan is a compassionate soul!

“I’m still in shock that he appointed me the director general of his campaign. However, I trust his judgements a lot because the EEU I know is a very thoughtful man and he must have seen something that made him decide on me. I want to sincerely thank him for the confidence he has reposed in me.

Mallam-Obi however implored the people of the Delta South to translate the outpour of social media love and support showed to him to concrete legwork because elections according to him are not won on Facebook.

He said: “The outpouring of love and support on social media has been overwhelming. I appreciate all of you for the love and support. We must translate that social media love and support to concrete legwork because elections are not won on Facebook. Opinions can be formed here but the real work is out there in our streets: our mothers and fathers in the villages; our brothers and sisters who do not have internet access; please tell them to vote for Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan. This election must be about issues and capacity.

Mallam-Obi, who hails from Oleh in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, and holds a Bachelors Degree (Bsc) in Economics from the Lagos State University, (LASU), said that the former governor understands the problems confronting the people of Delta South Senatorial District, particularly the issues of environmental degradation arising from hydrocarbon deposits.

“Uduaghan understands the problems and I know he will deliver. It can’t be business as usual of awarding NDDC contracts to self and a few family members and cronies. We must raise the bar. The Delta south senatorial district is the richest district in Nigeria by hydrocarbon deposits. Why support a man who has been there for 16 years and hasn’t seen any potential in the district other than contracts to self and family? We all know the real problem with Nigeria is the many unprogressive laws and practices that we have adopted.

He also queried why the military should keep worsening the degradation problems of the Delta South riverine communities by burning and spilling seized crude into the rivers, and ponds, saying that a legislature to be champion by Uduaghan when elected would correct the menace.

“Why should the army seize crude oil from thieves and burn it inside the creeks thereby damaging the environment? Why should they burn illegal refineries when you can make laws that support the indigenous people who own the wealth and the environment, to own properly fabricated local refineries and sell crude oil to them? We all know the many health hazards of these practices on our people! Why not make laws that empower communities to become part owners of the companies operating in their lands and waters instead of turning our villages into military zones all in the name of protecting ”critical national assets”? Is it not obvious that if the landowners are part owners of this wealth they will protect the assets with their last drop of blood?
