A lawyer and member of the FIDA Delta State chapter is set to organize a protest in Asaba, Delta State capital tomorrow, October 27, against sexual abuse and defilement of children.

Coordinator of the protest, Awele Ideal Esq. in a statement obtained by BigPen Online,  said the walk was to protest the increasing number of sexual violence against children, especially the death of thirteen year old Ochanya Elizabeth Ogbanje in Benue State,

According to her, “Children are special gifts from God Almighty. They are their parents’ pride and source of happiness to society. They are decent and innocent. Every reasonable human being should love children and protect their innocence”.

She said that every concerned citizen in Delta State is invited to join her tomorrow for the walk which will start at 3:30PM at Adios Place and terminate at Grand Hotels, Asaba.

She said that she, like every well meaning Nigerian was shocked when news of the death of the young girl broke in the media.

“I am a mother of three lovely girls and I cannot imagine such wickedness being visited on any of them. It is time we rise as a society against this monster that is rearing its head in our midst,” she added.

She said the walk is aimed at sensitizing parents, especially mothers not to be part of the conspiracy of silence and to indicate urgency for us all to keep an eagle eye on children everywhere we are.

Thirteen year old Ochanya reported to have died from complications caused by years of severe sexual abuse by a 51-year old guardian, Andrew Ogbuja and his son, Victor in Gboko, Benue State.

FIDA Benue State chapter is spearheading the fight for justice for late Ochanya.

BigPen Online recalls that the death of Ochanya Elizabeth Ogbanje, a 13 years old girl allegedly raped by a father and son in Gboko, Benue had triggered series of protest for justice and condemnation of the act throughout the country.

Ogbuja, a staff at Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo, and his son, Victor, a final-year student at the Federal University of Agriculture, were said to have serially abused the 13-year-old since she was eight.

Medical examination showed that Ochanya developed vesicovaginal fistula, a condition in which she continuously dripped urine, following damage to her bladder.
