The Police in Ovwian, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State has arrested a middle aged man who allegedly attempted to use his neighbour for money ritual.

The man whose identity couldn’t be immediately ascertained was exposed after the victim raised alarm of the incident which took placed last week Thursday night around Igbiki Layout, back of Ovwain Grammar School, Udu.

The victim who narrated her ordeal at the Sunday service of Free Indeed Church, in Orhuwhorun, after the case was reported at the Owvian Police station, said she was entering her street when the neighbour accosted her to follow him to see his pastor.

She said that immediately the suspect called her by her child’s name, Mama Rukky, and mentioned her to follow him to see his pastor down the lonely road, she became hypnotized and didn’t know what she was doing.

According to her, as they were going, she felt some sensational movements on her body with the neighbour, a father of three resting his hand on her shoulder.

She alleged that the neighbour who hailed from Itsekiri had attempted to use her for his “yahoo plus ritual” but was rescued by God’s grace.

Investigation however revealed that the suspect who is notorious for “yahoo business” reportedly packed out of Utuama layout where he earlier stayed for similar allegations that he usually hypnotised married women and “sleep” with them for ritual purpose.

Hear her: “I escorted my friend, a nearby neighbour who came to visit me around 9:30pm. As I was coming back, by the Igbiki junction this neighbour of our,  we called him “Papa Ejeme” was standing on the junction. He called me by my baby’s name and said I should follow him to see his Pastor. Immediately he said that for some reason I can’t explain I started following him like a lamb being led to the slaughter house.

“As we were going he started asking me questions like where I mine from, what’s my name. I was wondering but had lost the strength either to answer or resist him. He then placed his hands on my shoulder and I felt some strange and horrifying sensation. It was like my spirit was leaving my body. While I was trying to struggling to remove his hand from my shoulder my wrapper almost fell off, so I held on to it and in the process my hand touched the Free Indeed Church medal I wore on my neck.

“At that point, I immediately gain some consciousness and queried where he was taking me to. I noticed I was almost being used for money ritual so I raised alarm and ran to the home of the neighbour I earlier escorted which was by the same route and started hitting on their door.

“He immediately withdrawn and left me to my fate to either died or live.

“The people I was hitting their door were scared and almost refused opening the door for me but after they realised I was truly in trouble they came and escorted me home. While we were going back, I saw the neighbour who wanted to use me for the ritual again at the junction and I confronted him knowing fully well that I have been saved.

“He started begging me not to make trouble with the incident and that I should name a price. He offered to give me money to shut up. From what he was saying it appears he has been doing it and offering the victims who may later fall sick money. My friend and her husband were with me when he was saying that. I was in tears and seriously terrified. They saw me off to my house before leaving. When my husband came I told him and we again confronted him but he denied it saying the allegation was a gang up against him.

“The next morning, we reported the matter at the Ovwain Police Station. While police was waiting to get him arrested, he went and told the police another version, claiming we raised false allegations against him and brought police to arrest us unknowing to him that we had earlier gone to the police.

“As soon as we all got to the police station, they arrested him but because he carried his 1 year old baby claiming his wife was not at home, the police couldn’t detain him and they asked us to come back on Monday”, she added.

The victim who is from Isoko ethnic nationality, said the wife of the suspect who was confronted by her didn’t utter a word to counter the allegations ostensibly because she was part of the business her husband was doing.

The suspect who denied the allegations however said it was a gang up by those envious of him to humiliate and send him packing from the area.

All efforts to reach the Division Police Officer in charge of Ovwain Police Station for comment were not successful but a police source confirmed the story, saying the victim and the suspect were asked to report to the station today Monday.
