APC Primaries: 2 Students Shot Dead Over ‘Fuelled’ Police Shooting In Delta

Two students of the Federal College of Education, (Technical) Asaba were reportedly killed on Wednesday in a police induced shooting during Delta North senatorial district primary election of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Speaker of the Students Union Government of the institution, Mr. Vincent Ubani told newsmen in Asaba that one of the contestants allegedly instigated the shooting which led to the death of the students.
He identified one of the deceased as Henry Nweke, a 200 level student of Industrial Technical Education of the school.
Ubani who could not identify the second corpse, said the bodies of the victims had been deposited in the mortuary.
He said that the students were going round collecting N100 as fee from hawkers who stormed the place to make brisk business to shore up the internally generated revenue of the SUG when police started firing gun shots.
“As the collection was progressively going on, we heard gunshots from nowhere, only to discover that the victim was down in the pool of his own blood”.
He however, noted that there was no form of argument or quarrel with the policemen stationed at the venue to provide security for the APC primary.
As result of the tragic incident, the exercise was disrupted, as angry students invaded the place and chase out party officials, delegates and others.
Delta Police Commissioner, Mr. Muhammadu Mustafa, who confirmed the incident however said there was an accidental discharge at the venue.
