Uranta To Buhari: A President Must Be Big Enough To Tolerate What His Predecessor Went Through

Following the wave of defection that hit the ruling party, All Progressive Congress (APC), today (Tuesday) in reminiscent of the 2015 defection of some governors which helped President Buhari unseat his predecessor, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, Executive Secretary of Nigeria National Summit Group (NNSG), Mr. Tony Uranta, has urged Buhari to be man enough to exercise tolerance and accept the reality of what’s going on in the country.
Uranta, urged President Buhari to take a leaf out of former President Jonathan’s playbook and exhibit a level of statesmanship in tackling unfolding political dynamics in the country.
He said that now is the time for Buhari to show tolerate, and not allow anything that would truncate the country’s nascent democracy.
A statement made available to BigPen Online Tuesday night read in full:
“In the light of the political dynamics of the last twenty four hours, the Nigeria National Summit Group (NNSG) has joined all national and global stakeholders in the positive future of Nigeria in calling on President Buhari and the different agencies under him to tread very carefully in deployment of the abundant powers available to them under the 1999 Constitution, as Amended.
“Nobody can deny that Senate President, Bukola Saraki and his colleagues in the National Assembly, very successfully pulled off a deft coup against the APC, reminiscent of the earlier one himself, Amaechi, Kwakwanso et al pulled off against the PDP going forward to the 2015 Elections. We all know that the earlier coup strategy helped General Buhari unseat President Jonathan then.
Continuing, Mr. Uranta cautions, “we expect President Buhari to be a big enough man to accept the realities, whilst he and APC Chairman, Oshiomhole, vigorously attempt to undo the damage done, employing all decent means and ways possible, without deploying any coercive measures that will only tend to concretise grapevine rumours of untoward heavy-handedness in the APC Government’s style of governance.
“We implore President Buhari to take a leaf out of President Jonathan’s playbook and exhibit a level of statesmanship that puts the Common Good of All Nigerians above any personal ambition.
“Politics does not have to be a do-or-die affair and the Commander-in-Chief of Nigeria’s armed forces must not only be perceived as tolerant, he must not allow any excuse for the derailment of our nascent democracy.
“By the way, on behalf of all world citizens, we call on President Buhari to ensure that national stability is sustained; and, to specifically ensure there’s no misadventure on the part of the military, the same way President Jonathan did, to ensure national peace and security going forward”.
