NOPRIN Calls For Probe Of Allegations That Delta SSG, Agas Bribed Police DIG With N30m To Incarcerate Ugborodo Leaders

The Network on Police Reform in Nigeria (NOPRIN) has expressed worries over allegations that Secretary to Delta state Government, Mr. Ovie Festus Agas bribed DIG Hyacinth Dagala, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Criminal Intelligence & Investigation Department (FCIID), Abuja with the sum of Thirty million Naira (N30,000,000) to keep some leaders of Ugborodo community in detention for a long time.

NOPRIN, a network of 46 civil society organizations spread across Nigeria, and committed to promoting police accountability and respect for human rights, raised the concern in a post made in its Facebook page, calling for immediate investigation of the allegations.

Okechukwu Nwanguma, National Coordinator of NOPRIN raised the concern in a terse statement obtained by BigPen Online on Wednesday.

The statement read: “NOPRIN is shocked by the revelation by leaders of Ugborodo land that on the 21st day of Sepemteber, 2017 one Ayo Ayomike, Secretary to Austin Oborogbeyi (the imposed Chairman of ‘Ugborodo Community Management Committee’) and one Alex Eyengho boasted to Churchill Omadeli (one of those currently in prison) that Ovie Festus Agas (SSG Delta state) has bribed DIG Hyacinth Dagala, the Deputy Inspector-General of police, Force Criminal Intelligence & Investigation Department(FCIID), Abuja with the sum of Thirty million Naira (N30,000,000) and that this discussion took place at the DIG’s waiting room at the Force Headquarters on the day the parties were invited for interview, and that Jolomi Metseagharun, the duly elected Chairman of Ugborodo Administration Committee should step down or risk being imprisoned for a long term. This corruption allegation calls for urgent investigation”.
