Adeda’s Death: Omo-Agege Demands Full Probe, Asks Commissioner Ashibogwu to Step Aside

Former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has demanded a thorough and transparent investigation into the death of Deputy Director Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, and called on Commissioner Kingsley Ashibogwu to step aside.

Adeda, a Deputy Director in the Delta State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, died on September 25, 2026, after an incident at the office of the Commissioner for Secondary Education in Asaba, which is now under homicide investigation by the Delta Police Command.

In a statement on Saturday, Omo-Agege said Adeda “went to work but did not return home,” describing the incident as requiring clear answers and accountability.

The former lawmaker said the circumstances surrounding the death of the civil servant have raised serious concerns among public servants and the public, and called on authorities to ensure justice is done without shielding anyone.

Omo-Agege also called on Commissioner Ashibogwu to step aside pending the outcome of investigations to allow for transparency and to preserve public confidence in the process.

The Delta State Police Command had earlier announced the arrest of one suspect, Lucky Adoh, and declared two others, Enos Attah and Oputa Okestine, wanted over the incident, while stressing that cause of death is yet to be established.

The command said its homicide section had been directed to investigate the circumstances surrounding Adeda’s death.

Omo-Agege, however, cautioned against reaching conclusions before the investigation is completed, stressing the need to establish the exact cause of death and determine what transpired at the ministry.

He said if investigations establish that Adeda died as a result of an assault, those responsible should face prosecution.

The Delta Central senatorial candidate also called on the police to apprehend Attah and Okestine and ensure that anyone found culpable is prosecuted.

Omo-Agege further urged Commissioner Ashibogwu to step aside while the investigation continues, arguing that the move would help preserve public confidence in the process.

He said stepping aside should not be interpreted as an admission of guilt but as a measure to ensure confidence in the investigation, particularly because the incident reportedly occurred at the commissioner’s office.

The senator also called for the publication of the findings of the administrative panel set up to examine the circumstances surrounding the death, alongside the outcome of the police investigation.

He urged authorities not to allow the matter to fade from public attention without accountability.

Omo-Agege expressed condolences to the Adeda family, saying the family deserved to know the truth about what happened to their relative.

“No one should have to worry about making it home safely after a day at work,” he said, urging authorities to ensure that the circumstances surrounding the death are fully established.

Meanwhile, the Delta State Government has constituted an 8-man Administrative Panel of Inquiry headed by Mrs Charity Ehimen, while the NLC has declared an indefinite strike over the incident.
