Delta State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has called on the people of Ogbe-Ijoh in Warri South-West Local Government Area and Aladja in Udu in Udu Local Government Area of the State to sheathe their swords and consolidate on the existing peace in the State.
BigPen Online reports that the governor made the call same day popular hippop singer Harrysong, an Ogbe-Ijoh chap took to his Instagram page to bare his fang on the governor, accusing him of acting like every other Nigerian politicians and not like a leader in the real sense.
Harrysong had expressed his reservations over the state government handling of the crisis, saying that Okowa had failed to reconcile the feuding parties as a result of political interest.
But the governor who led top politicians to campaign for candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the January 6, 2018 council elections in the state in the area, expressed delight that peace has returned to the area.
He urged the people however to avoid anything that will jeopardize the peace being enjoyed in the area.
According to the Governor, “peace has returned to the area, there is peace in Delta State and I want our people in Ogbe-Ijoh and Udu to consolidate on the existing peace and be more united.”
“Peace has returned and I like the happy faces I am seeing here, this should continue.
“There should be total reconciliation and I am happy that the candidates of our party, the PDP for the local government elections are peaceful people, they will make the peace the people now enjoy to be more solid.
“We get more benefits as peaceful people, people living in harmony than people who are fighting; through dialogue, the best results will be achieved,” the Governor said.
Continuing, he emphasised, “I plead that you (people of Ogbe-Ijoh and Udu) should reconcile because, we don’t want any security challenge in any part of the state, we are one as Deltans, we must work for peace.”
He also praised the traditional rulers in the area and the youths for the roles they are playing for peace to reign, assuring that his administration will continue to execute projects that will impact on the lives of the people.
Deputy Governor of Delta State, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro who was personally at the campaign rally at Ogbe-Ijoh, stated that Warri South West local government area has always delivered the highest number of votes for the PDP during elections, assuring that such would be replicated at the council elections.
Chairman of the PDP in the state, Barr. Kingsley Esiso said the excitement on the faces of the people was a clear evidence that the PDP was on ground in the area and will emerge victorious in the elections.
At Udu, former campaign Manager of Chief Great Ogboru, Chief Ochuko Johnson decamped from the Labour Party to the PDP, saying that Governor Okowa’s administration has shown sincerity in governance.
At each of the venues of the campaign, PDP flag were given to the Chairmanship candidates while councillorship candidates were called out and introduced to the people.
