A socio-cultural group, Warri Rebirth Initiative, has told the militia group, Niger Delta Avengers that the Niger Delta region as well as Delta state have had enough of military offensives whenever there is renewed crisis in the region and therefore call on the group to give peace a chance.

The group stated this in a statement made available to BigPen Online on Friday after its meeting to review the security concerns in the region and Delta State.

Chairman of the group, Mr. Kes Agbosa, said that the Niger Delta region has had enough face off with the Nigerian Military, saying that each time there is crisis between the Nigerian Military and the militants, it is the  ordinary people as well as the economy of Nigeria and Delta State that bore the brunt of the onslaught.

While calling on the Avengers to give peace a chance, the group urged the Federal Government to fully activate its agenda for the region to curtail frequent agitations and threats of resumption of hostilities and damage to oil infrastructure.

Agbosa, in the statement said that the time has come for all to brace up to the challenge of growing a peaceful and progressive region and nation.

It however commended all groups that have so far lend their voice in calling for peace and restraint, explaining that any face off between the Nigerian Military and the militants was bound to have severe effect on the economy.

The statement read in part; “we as a socio cultural, non political group seeking the well being of our people in Warri and its environs cannot sit back and watch while the polity is getting heated up for something that can be resolved on the table of dialogue.

“While the Niger Delta Avengers have a point in requesting that the agitations of people in the area be addressed, we believe that these things can be done without recourse to violence as it is the innocent ones who will suffer, be displaced and left in misery.

“We are therefore calling on the Niger Delta Avengers to sheathe their sword and allow peace to reign”.
