There was a drama at the hallowed chamber of the Delta State House Of Assembly on Wednesday when the Chairman nominee for the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission, DSIEC, Mr. Michael Ogbodu failed to name his constituent member in the House correctly.

Ogbodu and other nominees were at the House for screening and confirmation but the DSIEC nominees caused rowdy session in the House which was promptly brought under control by the Speaker.

BigPen Online correspondent reports that the nominees threw the House into a rowdy session when they were asked to introduce themselves.

Mr. Ogbodu who hails from the home town of former governor, Chief James Ibori, while introducing himself as a “High Chief” and a retired Police Commissioner, failed to name correctly his Ethiope West Representative in the House.

The nominee was said to have named Hon. Evance Ivwurie who represents Ethiope East as his constituency representative in the House.

The scenario which caused wide murmuring and rowdy session in the hallow Chamber was brought under control when Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, corrected the nominee that his representative in the House is Hon. Ehriatake Ibori and not Hon. Evance Ivwurie who represents Ethiope East.

As if that was not enough, the second nominee from Ika North East, Mr. Fredrick Oduje Ulakpa introduced himself with an erroneous sentence which set the chambers back to a comic session. While introducing himself, the Governor kinsman said: “My Name Are”!

This again set the House into rowdy mood but the situation was again rescued by Oborevwori who was visibly displeased with the failure on the part of nominee to master the proper way of introducing one’s name.

The other nominees quickly learnt from the errors of the duo and scaled passed the introductory session.

As usual, Hon Tim Owhefere prayed the members of the House to grant the nominees the rare honour of taking a bow, which was obliged by the Speaker.

Meanwhile, our source said the nominees were all cleared in last than two hours. “The screening and confirmation done the usual way. Take a bow and go!

“However, this scenario has been the bane of the now rubber stamp Assembly”, the source said.

The appointees like every other are protégé of Chief James Ibori, the strongman of Delta politics, have been reportedly “screened” by Oborevwori-led House prior to today’s sitting since it is arrange to please the “godfather”.

The Chairman of the soon to be reconstituted Board, Chief Michael Ogbodu, a former Police Commissioner was nominated by Ibori and handed over to Okowa for the plum job.

Okowa and Ibori were said to have had a running battle over the dissolution of the former board, whose Chairman was also nominated by Ibori.

Ibori has a firm grip on the political structure of the state that successive governments still do his bidding.

His influence on state structures and the Assembly has made it the rubber stamp House of legislation.

Another of the appointee, Mrs. Light Oritseweyinmi Diden, is the wife of the member representing Warri North Constituency, Hon. Michael Diden also known as Ejele.

Ejele, one of Okowa’s men in the House, was instrumental to the huge financial support Okowa got from former warlord, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, aka Tompolo during the 2015 general elections.

Others appointees screened by the House include Mr. Fredrick Oduje Ulakpa, Mr. Friday Edmund Siemode, Mr. James Eruorhevwameme Umukoro, Mr. Gregory Chukwuma Edeme and Mrs. Yvonne Ovuevuo Wagbatsoma.
