Despite a substantive Imo State High Court order, 19 out of the 27 members Assembly on Monday impeached the Deputy Governor, Mr Eze Madumere.
Justice Ben Iheka of the Imo State High Court had restrained the Assembly from carrying out the impeachment procedure on Monday.
The order restrained the panel set up by the Chief Judge of the state, Paschal Nnadi; the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Acho Ihim; and the State House of Assembly from taking any further action in the impeachment process of Madumere until the hearing and determination of the suit.
But the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Acho Ihim, said the impeachment followed due process.
According to him, Mr Madumere was impeached following the outcome of a report of a 7-man panel which was constituted by the Chief Judge of the state.
The panel indicted the deputy governor of gross misconduct and abandonment of office as Deputy Governor.
Justice Iheka also directed the three members of the impeachment panel that were yet to be served the motion for interlocutory injunction to respect the suit, which is before the court.
The court adjourned hearing of the case till August 13.
