The Abia State Police Command has arrested suspects linked to the October 17 attack on the Uratta Divisional Police Headquarters, rescued 10 stolen children and recovered 15 firearms and 30 stolen vehicles in a major security operation across the state.

The Command also arrested 109 suspects, comprising 89 males and 20 females, in connection with 211 criminal cases recorded between September 11 and November 6, 2026.

The Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, disclosed this on Friday while presenting the Command’s operational scorecard, attributing the achievements to intelligence-led operations and collaboration with other security agencies.

Speaking on the attack on the Uratta police station, Afolabi said investigations had resulted in the arrest of some suspected members of the gang responsible for the assault.

He disclosed that one of the suspects had allegedly confessed to leading the gang that attacked the facility, adding that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other accomplices and unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.

In a related operation, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit raided a location in Ubakala, Umuahia South Local Government Area, on October 25 and arrested a suspect identified as Osita.

The police said two locally fabricated firearms, 16 live cartridges and four expended cartridges were recovered during the operation.

A second suspect, aged 30, was subsequently arrested for allegedly supplying ammunition illegally. According to the commissioner, both suspects had been charged to court.

On child trafficking, Afolabi said the police rescued 10 children during the period under review and reunited them with their families.

He specifically disclosed that two suspects were arrested on October 11 over the alleged abduction and stealing of two children, identified as seven-year-old Chiamaka Chikeze and nine-month-old Goodluck Chikeze.

The children were reportedly recovered and reunited with their parents, while the suspects were charged to court.

The commissioner also announced the arrest of a five-man vehicle theft syndicate, whose members were aged between 40 and 43.

A Toyota Corolla with registration number ROU 9338J was recovered from the suspects, who have also been charged to court.

In another operation, police operatives arrested two suspected cultists, aged 27 and 25, on October 31 for allegedly dispossessing students of Abia State University, Uturu, of their mobile phones and other valuables at gunpoint.

A locally fabricated firearm was recovered from the suspects.

Afolabi said one of the suspects had allegedly confessed to being a member of the Black Axe Confraternity.

He added that investigations were ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the suspected gang.
