Traders are counting the costs after a sudden fire tore through a wooden shop near Abraka’s Campus 1 Small Gate, triggering widespread panic in the area.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing massive plumes of thick black smoke rising into the sky as the flames quickly grew out of control.

The rapid spread of the inferno has sent panic through the University community with residents jostling to salvage some items from the inferno.

Details were still sketchy as at Thursday night but a video on social media showed that some traders and locals had rushed to the scene, scrambling to salvage whatever goods and valuables they could before the fire could spread to adjacent properties.

At the time of filing this report, the exact cause of the outbreak remains unknown, and authorities have yet to confirm the total value of the property destroyed in the incident.
