Nite of a Thousand Laughs Returns to Its Roots as Asaba Hosts 30th Anniversary Edition

Africa’s most iconic comedy brand, “Nite of a Thousand Laughs”, is set to return to its ancestral home as it marks a remarkable 30 years of redefining humour on the continent.

The globally acclaimed show, widely regarded as the mother of African comedy showcases, will celebrate its pearl anniversary on November 21, 2025, at the Dome Event Centre in Asaba, the city many describe as the cradle of modern stand-up comedy in Nigeria.

Created by Delta-born entertainment impresario, Dr. Opa Williams, Nite of a Thousand Laughs has, for three decades, served as the launchpad for some of the continent’s biggest comedy legends and kings.

From its early days, the platform has honed raw talent, elevated unknown acts into household names, and established comedy as a viable profession and emotional balm capable of lifting weary spirits.

Williams, reflecting on the milestone, reaffirmed his longstanding conviction that Delta State particularly Warri, remains the birthplace of stand-up comedy in Africa.

He recalled the famous “wording” culture of old Warri, an art form of quick wit and verbal dexterity that shaped the comedic instincts of many pioneers.

According to him, bringing the 30th anniversary show to Asaba is not just symbolic, but a homecoming for a cultural movement that has grown into a continental phenomenon.

Asaba is already buzzing with anticipation, charged with what organisers describe as “torrents of electrifying neurons,” as the city prepares to host what promises to be an unforgettable night of humour, nostalgia and artistic brilliance.

The anniversary edition will see legendary comedians share the stage with today’s hottest comic sensations in a fusion of eras designed to “blow minds away.”

On November 21, 2025, the capital city will transform into a hub of laughter, healing and celebration, with organisers promising a night guaranteed to light up chins, crack ribs, and draw tears of joy inspired by the pure chemistry of life and laughter.

Get ready — November 21 is a date with happiness.
