BREAKING: 3 Police Officers Killed In Anambra As Gunmen Attack Gov. Okowa’s Convoy

Yet-to-be identified gunmen, on Friday, reportedly opened fire on the convoy of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), leaving three police officers dead.

The governor was traveling to Abia State when the hoodlums opened fire heavily on the advance party convoy.

Three police officers from the Explosive Ordnance Device (EoD) department of the Delta State Police Command, Asaba, attached to the state government house, Asaba, were killed by the unidentified gunmen.

Multiple reports say the incident took place in Anambra State’s Ihiala Local Government Area.

A police officer with the Anambra State command identified the three killed officers as Inspectors Lucky Aleh, Celestine Nwadiokwu, and Jude Obuh while pleading for anonymity. 

The officer also revealed that the three officers were part of the advance party accompanying Delta State Governor and PDP vice presidential candidate Ifeanyi Okowa to Abia State when they were attacked and killed by unidentified gunmen at around 1.30 pm at Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra.

Two of the killed police officers were reported to have been Agbor, Delta state natives, according to reliable sources quoted by Sahara Reporters 

“Four officers were in the vehicle, but one was wearing a mufti (not in uniform), so he was freed while the three in uniform were killed.” 

“The escort commander from the Government House, Asaba, was sent to bring their corpses and deposit them in a mortuary in Asaba,” a Government House source confided in SaharaReporters.

Ikenga Tochukeu, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Anambra State Command, was contacted regarding the incident and confirmed it, saying, “We received distress calls and rushed to the incident scene. 

“The policemen who were killed are from the Delta state command and were on transit as at the time of the incident. But I can assure you that the state commissioner of police, Anambra, is very poised to bring to book the criminals behind the dastardly act.”

The Delta State Government House and the state police command are said to have been placed in mourning as of the time of filing this report, according to the report.
