PDP Wins All 31 Chairmanship Seats In Akwa-Ibom, APC Rejects Results

The Local Government elections held in Akwa-Ibom on Saturday (yesterday) saw the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), winning all the 31 local governments in Akwa Ibom state.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC), Aniedi Ikoiwak on Sunday December 3, 2017.

According to him, a total of twelve political parties contested the elections but declined to give a breakdown of the votes scored by the parties and their candidates.

“This statement confirms the announcement/declarations made earlier by the authorized Returning Officers in various wards and Local Government Areas… Details of the scores submitted by our field officers will be made available by the Filed Operations/Logistics Department of the commission”, the statement said.

In another statement signed by the Electoral Commissioner, Legal Matters and Public Affairs, Dr Faith Umoh, the chairmen and councilors-elect were directed to be at the electoral headquarters to collect their certificates of return.

“The Chairman-elect of the 31 local government areas and all the councilors-elect respectively are hereby invited to the AKISIEC headquarters at 5, Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo on Monday, December 4, 2017 by noon for the collection of certificates of return”.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected the outcome of the results saying there was no election in Akwa-Ibom state.

In a statement signed by the State chairman, Amadu Attai, Cancus Chairman, Don Etiebet and State secretary  Effiong Etok, the party called on all security agencies, the government of Akwa-Ibom State, Federal Government of Nigeria and the general public to disregard the election results.

The PDP won all 31 Local Governement chairmanship seats and all 329 councillorship seats in all the wards.
