US, UK Wrong For Adjudging Nigerian Elections Credible – Group

Published

on

The group, Vanguard for Transparent Leadership and Democracy (VATLAD), has faulted the United State and United Kingdom for leaning credence to the Nigerian general election.

VATLAD, said that the U.S. and U.K Govts have betrayed the trust Nigerians repose in them.

National President of the group, Comrade (Engr) Odafe Emmanuel Igbini in a statement on Thursday said that Nigeria’s socio-economic and democratic progress depend largely on the direct and or indirect roles played by the governments of the United States of America (U.S).

Igbini, also contended that the financial, intelligence and technical supports are very critical in the realisation of free peaceful and credible general elections in Nigeria.

However, having carefully analysed the roles so far played by the Governments of both countries in Nigeria’s General Elections since post-May 29, 1999 till date, he posited, “we state that both countries have betrayed the Hope and Trust two hundred million Nigerians reposed in them to help guide and lead Nigeria to achieve truly free, peaceful and credible elections.

“It is a fact that since post-May 29, 1999 General Elections, various Changes of Law in Nigeria have pronounced that majority of the general elections conducted were fraudulent and incredible. This is in addition to hundreds of deaths recorded across the country due to Electoral violence.

“Late President Umaru Musa Yar Adua even publicly admitted that the 2007 General Election that brought him to power was fraudulent and non-peaceful. General Muhammadu Buhari, as he then was, challenged all presidential elections in court because he strongly believes that the elections were fraudulent and not peaceful, the same way President Buhari, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, leaders and candidates of political parties in the just held Presidential and National Assembly elections of 2019 are alleging massive frauds in the exercises.

“It is therefore surprising and very disburbing that despite these overwhelming facts of monumental frauds, killings and violence recorded in these general elections, the governments of both the U.S and U.K would declare that the elections were free, fair, credible and true reflections of the wills of Nigerians. What can be worse lies and betrayal of the truth known to all, than this?

We demand that both countries immediately deploy her resources to help Nigeria achieve free, fair, peaceful and credible elections come March 9, 2019 that will truly reflect the wills of the good people of Nigeria.

Both U.K and U.S must quit being politically correct. Both countries must realise that they are bonded with the same chain with Nigeria. If Nigeria rises, they rise; if Nigeria falls, they fall.

The United States must always remember the promise it makes to Nigerians saying that its “interest is to help support a process that leads to credible result that reflects the will of the Nigerian people”.
