Tinubu Confirms Rescue of 15 NYSC Members, 6 Others in Kogi

President Bola Tinubu has expressed relief over the successful rescue of 15 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members and six other Nigerians abducted by suspected kidnappers in Kogi State last week.

The victims, comprising eight males and 13 females, were rescued on Monday from a kidnappers’ hideout in the forests of Ofu Local Government Area of the state following a coordinated search-and-rescue operation involving security agencies and local vigilantes.

Tinubu, in a statement posted on his official X handle, @officialBAT, commended the military, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS) and local vigilantes for their efforts in securing the release of the 21 abductees.

The President said the rescued victims were receiving medical attention before being reunited with their families.

While celebrating their freedom, Tinubu directed security agencies to sustain the hunt for the kidnappers and ensure that those responsible for the abduction are arrested and prosecuted.

He said: “I am delighted to receive the news that the fifteen members of the National Youth Service Corps and six other innocent, law-abiding Nigerians abducted last week in Kogi State by criminal elements have regained their freedom.

“The well-coordinated Search and Rescue operation carried out by a combined team of personnel from the military, the Nigerian Police Force, the Department of State Services, and local vigilantes safely rescued all twenty-one abductees.”

Tinubu assured Nigerians that his administration remained committed to creating a country where citizens could travel freely without fear of abduction or attacks.

He also commended the families of the victims for their patience and understanding throughout the ordeal, while assuring parents of NYSC members that the government would continue to prioritise their safety.

The President further warned that those who carried out the abduction, as well as anyone who aided the crime, would face the full weight of the law.

“I wholeheartedly commend the combined SAR team for their courage and appreciate the families and loved ones of the abductees for their understanding during this ordeal,” Tinubu said.

He concluded by commending the nation’s security and intelligence personnel for their service and sacrifice.
