Isoko North Boss Moves to Tackle Flooding in Alah Square in Ozoro

The Executive Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, Godwin Ogorugba, has taken decisive steps to address the recurring flooding that has continued to affect Alah Square in Ozoro.

During an inspection visit to the flooded area on Monday morning, the council chairman ordered the immediate removal of all caravans and temporary structures erected on drainage channels, noting that such illegal obstructions have significantly contributed to the persistent flooding experienced in the area.

Addressing residents, Ogorugba reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing a lasting solution to the flooding challenge and assured the community that the council would collaborate with relevant government agencies, stakeholders and community leaders to develop and implement sustainable flood control measures aimed at safeguarding lives and protecting property.

As part of the immediate response, the chairman directed the Supervisor for Agriculture and Community Development, Thomas Akpoedafe, and the Supervisor for Environment, Joshua Alebe, to commence urgent remedial works to ease the flooding and carry out a comprehensive assessment of the area’s drainage network and recommend practical, long-term solutions to prevent future occurrences.

The chairman also stressed the need for strict enforcement against indiscriminate construction on drainage channels, emphasizing that environmental sanitation and compliance with building regulations are essential to tackling flooding across the local government.

Those who accompanied the chairman during the inspection were the Secretary to the council, Vote Umuakpo; the Senior Special Assistant to the executive chairman, Erero Jacob Oloku; the Supervisor for Agriculture and Community Development, Thomas Akpoedafe; the Supervisor for Environment, Joshua Alebe; the Personal Assistant to the council chairman, Isaiah Omoyibo; the Director of Protocol (DOP) to the council chairman, Jude Ogwologho, and other government officials.
