‎Tinubu Rejects Judiciary Interference Claims, Says FCT TSA Exit Boosted Project Delivery ‎

‎President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has defended his administration’s decision to remove the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) from the Treasury Single Account (TSA), saying the policy has accelerated infrastructure development and improved project delivery across the nation’s capital.

‎The President said the decision gave the FCTA greater financial flexibility, enabling it to access funds more quickly, engage financial institutions efficiently and execute critical projects without bureaucratic delays.

‎Speaking on Monday through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, during the inauguration of a new Office Annex for the Body of Benchers and 10 units of four-bedroom staff quarters at the Nigerian Law School in Bwari, Abuja, Tinubu said the results of the policy were now evident.

‎”When we pulled the FCT Administration out of the Treasury Single Account, there were skeptics who questioned the wisdom of that financial liberation. We did it because we knew that local administration needed the liquidity, speed and flexibility to deliver critical projects without bureaucratic strangulation. Today, the results are glaring,” he said.

‎The President commended Nyesom Wike for implementing the administration’s vision, saying the FCT Minister had not only delivered major infrastructure projects but also strengthened institutions critical to governance and the administration of justice.

‎Tinubu also praised Wike for resolving the Nigerian Law School’s long-standing land documentation challenge by facilitating the issuance of its Certificate of Occupancy after years without formal title.

‎According to the President, Wike has fulfilled the mandate to transform Abuja into a modern, functional and world-class capital city through extensive urban renewal and infrastructure development.

‎Addressing concerns that the construction of judicial infrastructure could amount to executive interference, Tinubu dismissed the claims, insisting that providing facilities for the judiciary is a constitutional responsibility of the executive and does not compromise judicial independence.

‎He said the newly inaugurated Body of Benchers Office Annex reflects his administration’s commitment to strengthening the rule of law, democratic governance and institutional independence.

‎The President further stressed that improving infrastructure at the Nigerian Law School is essential to producing competent legal professionals, noting that quality legal education cannot thrive in inadequate facilities.

‎He disclosed that the newly commissioned staff quarters are the first phase of wider investments at the institution, including the construction of a new auditorium, additional student hostels and the digitisation of academic and administrative operations.

‎Tinubu added that similar interventions are ongoing across the justice sector, including the construction of the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal, new magistrates’ courts and residential quarters for judicial officers.
