The Supreme Court in a landmark ruling, on Thursday, invalidated the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) recent national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15-16, 2025.

The decision marks a major setback for the faction led by Tanimu Turaki, a former Minister of Special Duties.

The convention, which resulted in the formation of a separate National Working Committee under Turaki’s leadership, was contested amid ongoing internal disputes over the party’s leadership.

The apex court’s verdict effectively erases the legitimacy of the faction’s leadership structure.

Delivering the judgment in Abuja on Thursday, the Supreme Court declared: “The PDP convention held in Ibadan on November 15 and 16, 2025, is hereby declared null, void, and without any legal effect.”

This ruling nullifies all resolutions, decisions, and appointments made during the controversial convention.

As a result, the Turaki-led leadership team is stripped of any official recognition, ending months of legal and political uncertainty within the party.

The decision also invalidates the creation of the faction’s National Working Committee, consolidating the party’s internal unity.

Political analysts suggest that the verdict could considerably impact PDP’s internal power dynamics as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.

Further details and reactions from party officials are anticipated once the full judgment is released.
