Three Killed as Suspected Fulani Herdsmen Allegedly Launch Surprise Attack in Delta Community

A devastating tragic incident has been reportedl in Okpolo-Enhwe community, Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta State, where at least three residents lost their lives following an alleged attack by Fulani herdsmen suspected of invading the area.

According to local residents, the violence erupted in the early hours of Wednesday when some people from the community went to check their fishing nets in the bush.

They were ambushed and shot at by gunmen believed to be herders, causing instant fatalities and widespread panic.

The attack has plunged the community into grief and fear, with reports indicating that some residents are fleeing their homes to escape possible further violence.

It was learnt that despite the deployment of troops of soldiers, tension remains high as the community grapples with the aftermath of the assault.

In an exclusive interview, Chief Kennedy Idolo, President General of Okpolo-Enhwe, confirmed the tragic toll.

“We have lost three of our people this morning. Two were shot dead immediately, and a third died from shock while fleeing. One of them, identified as Youth, was killed on the spot, while another was rushed to the hospital and later died. The third collapsed from fear and died en route home,” he explained.

“One Youth Okoro and Okoeta were killed by the invaders. I can’t tell now the number of people injured but they were going to their fishing lake at the early hours of the morning.  They lay siege for them in the bush and fired shots at them without any provocation.

“The one called Youth by name, was shot dead on the spot while the other one was rushed to the hospital where he died. The third one collapsed out of the shock and died on his way home. They are all married men who were plying their trade at the fishing lake”.”>

He narrated that the victims, all married men engaged in fishing, were ambushed in the bush without any provocation. The attackers reportedly laid siege to their fishing spot and opened fire, leaving families devastated.

The community has so far deposited the bodies at the morgue, but the families demand immediate burials. ,

When contacted,  the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said he was unaware of the incident but would investigate further.
