Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has expressed deep condolences to the Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS), Asaba, and members of the Delta State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) over the passing of veteran broadcaster, Vivian Nkechika, describing her death as a painful loss to the media industry and the state at large.

In a condolence message issued in Asaba on Thursday, Aniagwu said the late Nkechika was a consummate professional whose distinctive voice, dedication and commitment to ethical journalism left an indelible mark on broadcasting in Delta State.

He noted that Vivian Nkechika, an indigene of Ekwuoma in Ika North East Local Government Area, served as an Assistant Manager in the Programmes Department of DBS, Asaba, where she distinguished herself through years of devoted service, earning the respect of colleagues and the admiration of listeners and viewers across the state.

According to Aniagwu, the news of her passing came as a rude shock, especially at a time when her wealth of experience, guidance and mentorship were still greatly needed in the media space.

The Commissioner described the late broadcaster as a disciplined, hardworking and passionate media practitioner who upheld the core values of journalism and contributed immensely to public enlightenment and societal development.

He commiserated with the management and staff of DBS, the leadership and members of the NUJ in Delta State, as well as the immediate family of the deceased, praying God to grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
