Details Emerge on Bayelsa Deputy Governor’s Death After Office Incident

More details have emerged about how Bayelsa State Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Oborawharievwo Ewhrudjakpo, died on Thursday after he reportedly slumped in his office in Government House, Yenagoa.

BIGPEN NIGERIA (https://bigpenngr.com) reports Ewhrudjakpo had worked until evening on Wednesday and even hosted a meeting with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

At the meeting, he commended the State Governor, Douye Diri, for being a champion of primary healthcare.

It was learnt that on Thursday morning another meeting was scheduled for him at his office.

Multiple sources revealed that during the meeting, which had in attendance some community leaders and stakeholders involved in pipeline surveillance,, there ensued a heated argument

Ewhrudjakpo was said to have left the conference room of his office, where the meeting was held, and was climbing the staircase when he slumped.

His aides and top government officials who were present when the incident occurred were said to have rushed him to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Yenagoa, where doctors confirmed his death.

Government activities are currently halted because top government officials are keeping their lips sealed over the situation.

According to government sources, Diri, who is currently out of the country, has been briefed on the situation and is on his way back to the state.

Ewhrudjakpo, 60, was elected alongside Diri in February 2020 after briefly serving in the Senate as Bayelsa West’s representative.

Before becoming Deputy Governor, he served as Commissioner of Works under former Governor Senator Henry Seriake Dickson.

He was from the Ofoni community in the Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
