Police Arrests ex-Convict Barely 12 Days After Release from Prison, Recovers Stolen Motorcycle

Barely twelve days after he was released from Ogwashi-uku correctional facility, 18-year-old Buhari Deyegu, has been arrested by operatives of Eagle-Net Special Squad Asaba of the Delta State Police Command.
The suspect was apprehended by a patrol team in a combined effort with some members of Nigeria Hunters Security Services (NFSS), while on visibility patrol following a distressed call about a missing motorcycle.
Deyegu who resides along Ibusa road, was arrested alongside one Precious Okoro (27) of Ulo Street, Asaba, on August 11.
State Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe who confirmed this on Tuesday, said that the said suspect is an ex-convict who was released from Ogwashi-uku correctional facility 6th of August 2025 after completing his jail term of two years for a similar offence of stealing a motorcycle.
He said that the suspect went back to steal another motorcycle just five days after returning from prison.
Edafe said that investigation was extended to the suspect’s residence, where a search warrant was executed, and one Tiger Generator, one big fireman generator, one iron measuring scale were recovered. Suspect is in custody, he added.
In a related development, Edafe said that on Saturday August 16, operatives of Rapid Response Squad of Delta State Command, while on Stop and Search along DBS Road, Asaba, stopped one Bassey Udoh, age 39years of custom market, Asaba, carrying a cross bag.
According to him, suspect, on sighting the police, became uncomfortable, and this prompted the Police men to search him on the spot.
“Upon the search of the suspect, an English Beretta pistol was recovered. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is part of a syndicate that usually breaks into people’s homes and cart away their properties, and he bought the gun for the sum of thirty thousand naira (#30,000). Suspect is in custody, and the investigation is ongoing”.
Meanwhile, the Delta State Command, under the leadership of CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has directed all officers, DPOs, and heads of formations to key into this policing strategy and ensure that their areas of responsibility are adequately policed.
