At least six persons have been reported dead and numerous injuries following a fatal crash at Udu bridge in Delta State.

BIGPEN NIGERIA (https://bigpenngr.com) reports the incident involved a truck colliding with a trailer, which led to a tragic chain of events.

Eyewitnesses reported that the truck, owned by Julius Berger, crashed into a stationary trailer that was broken down and carrying electric poles.

The collision happened when the truck was attempting to avoid a tricycle that was not paying adequate attention, possibly due to brake failure.

The impact was severe, causing the trailer to topple and crushing a mechanic working underneath it.

The mechanic was working on the trailer when it fell, resulting in his death, along with three other tricycle passengers who were hit by the falling trailer.

“The impact caused the trailer to topple, killing the mechanic and crushing three moving tricycles with passengers.

“The incident caused heavy gridlock as motorists and passengers became stranded as the road was totally blocked by the fallen trailer”, the source added.

The accident caused a major traffic jam, with many vehicles and pedestrians stranded on the busy route into Warri.

The blockage lasted for hours, disrupting the movement of workers, students, and traders.

“Several persons have to find alternative routes to escape from the gridlock which lasted throughout the day”.

Emergency responders evacuated the victims, with about six bodies recovered by Monday evening.

The Local government chairman Olorogun Vincent Oyibode was present at the scene, coordinating rescue efforts and deploying a towing van to clear the wreckage.

However, the road remains obstructed, and traffic is yet to be fully restored.
