Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area Chairman, Olorogun Jaro Egbo, has publicly defended his administration against allegations making the round, maintaining his commitment to transparency, accountability, and the delivery of tangible development projects for the people of Ughelli North.

He spoke at a press briefing after a tour of ongoing projects in the local government area, on Monday.

Egbo, a senior lawyer and respected community leader, addressed claims made against him by some family members and members of the public.

He dismissed as malicious, and baseless all the allegations which he said were targeted at tarnishing his reputation and undermining his efforts to serve the good people of Ughelli North.

“The deliberate spread of misinformation is a calculated attempt to discredit my leadership and cast aspersions on the government of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori. I will not be deterred by falsehoods or character assassinations,” Egbo stated firmly.

He reaffirmed his dedication to good governance, stating, “My focus remains on delivering effective governance, upholding integrity, and providing service to the people. A thorough and objective review will reveal the falsehood of these allegations.”

Addressing specific claims, Egbo clarified that Skyviaro Properties Development Company Limited is not a registered contractor with the local government, nor has it been awarded any contracts under his administration. “I have resigned from any involvement with this company, and there has been no breach of due process,” he assured.

The council boss also called on authorities to intervene and prevent further disruptions, warning that he reserves the right to pursue legal action if the smear campaign persists.

On development projects, Egbo highlighted significant strides made during his ten-month tenure. These include renovations of key government offices, procurement of eight official vehicles for senior officials, and the construction of a children’s cottage hospital in Ughelli metropolis. His administration is also working on building accommodation for healthcare workers, an ultra-modern secretariat, and plans to establish police stations or customary courts across the seven kingdoms in Ughelli North.

Additionally, solar power projects are underway, including electrification of the chairman’s office and security lighting for the entire secretariat. Educational improvements are also a priority, with the procurement of 300 benches for schools and installation of a 500KVA transformer in Ekrabovwe.

Regarding personal and family matters, Egbo refuted claims of suspension by the Abovwe family, describing such reports as “fake news.” He presented a message from the family reaffirming their support and unity with him, emphasizing that rumors of his suspension or excommunication are false.

“The Abovwe family remains fully behind me. These false claims are driven by personal grievances and attempts to divert attention from other issues,” he explained.
