A young man has found himself in trouble after an unsuccessful attempt to steal a loaf of bread, as captured in a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter).

In the video posted by @instablog9ja, the man, dressed neatly in a blue long-sleeve shirt and carrying a backpack, is seen standing in front of a bread seller. While pretending to ask for the price of a loaf, he slyly places another loaf into his bag without the seller noticing.

The woman, unaware of his actions, mistakenly believes the missing bread was taken by a previous customer.

However, a bystander recording the incident on his phone spotted the theft and approached the man. As the bread seller began to realize something was wrong, more onlookers joined in to help uncover the truth.

At first, the man denied the theft, but as the person filming came closer and confronted him—slapping him—he eventually confessed.

Seeing that he had been caught, the man returned the stolen loaf. Despite the tension, the crowd urged the man who slapped him to forgive him, as the bread had been returned.

@DanielRegha: Stealing is wrong, it will never be justified; But a well-dressed man stealing bread also goes to show how there’s serious hunger in Nigeria. Sadly, crimina! activities like this might get worse if our leaders don’t get a quick reality check & start delivering on their campaign promises. People are really suffering.

@iam_flourish_uk: Looking at him I’ll just make sure he apologizes and buy him the bread coz clearly he’s hungry. Not everything we go de rush judge and do justice.. you behind the camera 📷 have committed sins worse than his .. smh 🤦‍♂️

@bunmi_speaks: Not condoning stealing, but I wish Nigerians were this hostile towards their politicians who have stolen their collective wealth wholesale, and who continue to do so for no reason at all. But no, they hail these crïmïnals whenever they come in contact with them and treat their fellow 0ppressed like the worst humans on earth for doing the same thing just to survive. What a pity. I won’t be surprised if they’re under a heavy spell.
