Hunger Protest: Delta CP Orders Massive Deployment, Calls For Cooperation From Protest Organizers, Assures Residents Of Safety
The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has ordered massive deployment across the state, including undercover operatives from the State Intelligence Department to monitor activities and identify potential troublemakers ahead the planned nationwide hunger protest.
The CP, in a statement released by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, also called on organizers of the planned nationwide protest to submit relevant details of their activities to ensure a peaceful and secure environment.
He said that the request was in compliance with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
The required details include the protest assembly point and routes, expected duration, names and contact details of leaders and organizers, and measures to prevent hijack by criminal elements.
CP Abaniwonda urged cooperation from both organizers and participants to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
“To ensure public safety, the CP has ordered massive deployment across the state, including undercover operatives from the State Intelligence Department to monitor activities and identify potential troublemakers.
“Residents are assured of protection during and after the protest, and participants are advised to maintain peaceful assembly and avoid acts that could lead to law and order breakdown.
“Those participating in any form of protest are therefore advised to ensure that they maintain the sanctity of public gathering and lawful assembly and avoid acts capable of leading to a breakdown of law and order in the state”, the statement said.
