No Corps Member Died From Thunder Strike In Abia Camp – NYSC

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has denied reports that a female corps member died from a thunder strike at the Abia State Orientation Camp in Umunna.

According to a statement by Eddy Megwa, Director of Information and Public Relations, NYSC, the corps member was injured during a heavy downpour and thunderstorm but was stabilized by the camp’s medical team and referred to a hospital in Umuahia for further evaluation.

“The corps member is very stable and responding to treatment… The parents of the corps member have been contacted and they have confirmed that their daughter is in a very stable condition,” the statement read.

The NYSC management urged media practitioners to verify information before publishing, saying “NYSC as a proactive organisation is committed to the health, well-being and security of her Corps Members at all time.”

Recalls that media was awashed with the news of the purported incident on Saturday, July 13 but NYSC stated! “hough there was a heavy downpour in the early hours of the day with unusual thunderstorm, the only injured female Corps Member was immediately stabilised by the dedicated Orientation Camp Medical Team from Federal Medical Centre Umuahia”

“The Corps Member was immediately referred to a hospital in Umuahia for prompt medical evaluation.”

“The Corps Member is very stable and responding to treatment accordingly, whereas, the parents of the Corps Member have been contacted and they have confirmed that their daughter is in a very stable condition.

“The blogger that erupted the information did not get the facts of the matter from NYSC before publishing”

Furthermore,we Wish to inform the general public especially parents and guardians of the Corps Members currently in camp should be rest assured that the security and welfare of their children in NYSC Abia State Orientation Camp is fully guaranteed

NYSC Management further call on media practitioners, especially online bloggers to make consultations with the Scheme on every matter before publishing misleading information, that is devoid of facts about the NYSC.
