The Peter Obi Support Network has expressed concern over the disruption of a free medical outreach by alleged thugs loyal to Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) vice presidential candidate for the 2023 general election.

The free medical outreach program was held at Ogbonologo Market in Asaba, the capital of Delta State, and was organized by Diasporan Doctors for Good Governance and Doctors 4 Peter Obi.

The group referred to alleged Okowa’s action as irresponsible and hooliganism in a statement released on Friday and signed by its Director of Strategic Communications, Mr. Onwuasoanya FCC Jones.

The statement read in part: “The Peter Obi Support Network regretfully wish to alert Nigerians to the irresponsible resort to hooliganism by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as he sent his thugs to disrupt a free medical outreach organised by Diasporan Medics For Good Governance in conjunction with Doctors 4 Peter Obi in Ogbonologo market in Asaba, Delta State.”

According to Onwuasoanya, Mr. Kelvin Obi Ezenyili, the Chairman of the State’s Oshimili South Local Government Area, led the thugs.

A free medical intervention was organized by responsible professionals with the sole purpose of serving Deltans’ medical needs, the statement claims, and there was no legitimate reason to prevent hundreds of anxious citizens who were victims of Okowa’s poor governance from receiving it.

The group stated that it’s unfortunate that instead of showing gratitude to the selfless medical professionals who tasked themselves to provide useful health interventions to the citizenry, Governor Okowa chose to exhibit his reckless wickedness by disrupting the exercise.

“We understand that Okowa’s action is a reflection of hisparty’s electoral insecurity and a demonstration of their frustration with their clear and loud rejection by all classes of Nigerians who have made no pretentions about their preference for the Labour Party as the vehicle to birth good governance and rescue them from years of mindless dictatorship and reckless rape of their commonwealth, accentuated by an inexplicable dearth of public amenities.

“Governor Okowa must be advised that a resort to sheer hooliganism and the deployment of unlawful force cannot stop the people’s resolve to take back their country and enthrone good governance across the board.

“In line with the character and philosophy of the incoming President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Mr Peter Obi and in keeping with the guiding principle of the Obi-Datti Campaign, members of Labour Party in Delta State, volunteers, and our supporters from across different political leanings have restrained themselves from responding in kind to Okowa’s thugs as they conducted themselves in the most responsible manner, even in the face of unwarranted provocations by PDP’s thugs.”

POSN, therefore, enjoined all members, especially, delegates attending the South-east/South-South Summit for Peter Obi, to continue to conduct themselves in orderly manner and use the provided channels to inform the group promptly of any threat or acts of intimidation from any quarter.
