Man, 26 Kills 11-yr-old Boy While Testing Locally Made Gun In Delta

A 26-year-old man, one Ogaga Kome, has allegedly shot and killed 11-year-old Hossanna Merritt, while testing his locally made gun in his house in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta.

The suspect who fled the scene immediately he committed the crime, was however arrested through effort of a relative who brought him to the police station in the area.

State Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, who confirmed the incident which happened on Monday August 22, said that the Command, upon getting the information alerted members of the public on the incident and solicited for information that will aid the arrest of the suspect.

Consequently, he said that on Tuesday August 30, at about 1305hrs, the suspect who fled the scene after the shooting was arrested and brought to the station by a well-meaning individual who is also a relative.

While saying that the suspect is in custody as investigation is ongoing, Edafe disclosed that on Thursday, 25 August, at about 0800hrs, a case of suspected stolen unregistered motorcycle was reported by an indigene of Onicha-Uku at Isseluku-Uku Police Station.

He said that on the strength of the complaint, the DPO Issele-Uku detailed detectives to investigate which culminated to the arrest of the prime suspect, Iyegbunuwe Oluchukwu of Issele-Uku.

The suspect led the detectives to their hideout at Onicha-Ugbo in Aniocha North LGA, where two other suspects, one Okwudili Ozah and Esther Nwoko were arrested in possession of One (1) English revolver pistol, fifteen (15) rounds of live ammunition, and six (6) expended ammunition were recovered.
Suspects allegedly stole the motorcycle at gun point and it’s suspected to be in the possession of one of their accomplice Chidinma Nwoko, the husband to Esther Nwoko, the police spokesman said.
He said that effort is on to arrest the other members of the gang.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police Delta State Command, CP Ari Muhammed Ali, has applauded the efforts of residents in the State who have been supportive to the Police in combating crime, urging them to sustain the tempo as crime has no jurisdiction and security is everybody’s business.

The CP also advised members of the public to monitor their environment, and report any suspicious persons or movements to the Police.
