Edo Police Bust Criminal Gang’s Hideouts In Coastlines, Recover Assault Rifles, Ammunitions, Charms

A combined team of police have raided criminal hideouts in the coastline and maritime settlements in Edo State in continuation of the ongoing raids of criminal hideouts and cultist’s enclaves in the State.

www.bigpenngr.com reports that this came as the police on Friday, August 26 at about 1620hrs, arrested one Lawrence Yambo and his gang, who have been terrorising the Okomu riverine community in Ovia West Local Government Area of the state.

 

Deputy Police Public Relation Officer, ASP Jennifer U. Iwegbu, who confirmed this in a statement on Saturday, said that the breakthrough followed the Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Abutu Yaro’s directives to conduct an intensive raid of the community.

She said that following the CP’s directives, “operatives of the command attached to the Command’s intelligence and rapid response squad, the Command’s crack team and the Marine Police of the command mobilized and swung into action.

“On arrival at the community, the other miscreants terrorizing the community on sighting the operatives took to their heels into Agbede forest in Ovia West Local Government area of Edo state, abandoning their loots.

Iwegbu said that on the spot house to house search conducted within the community led to the recovery of the following items; 2 AK 49 rifles, 1 AK 47 rifle, 2 locally made revolver single barrel, I locally made single barrel, 1 locally made double barrel, 1 locally made cut to size barrel, 128 pieces of AA cartridges, 12 pieces of 9mm ammunitions, 2 telephone handsets, 2 army shirts, 2 high pressure gas cylinders and a bag of charms.

She said that the Commissioner of Police, however, applauded the professionalism of his men involved in the onslaught.

While reassuring the public that the command would not rest on its oars to ensure that Edo state is peaceful and crime in the state is reduced to its barest minimum, the police boss appealed for continuous collaboration from the good people of the State including security stakeholders in the State.
