Mob Delivers Jungle Justice, Burns 2 Robbery Suspects In Delta

Angry mob on Wednesday delivered jungle justice on two suspected armed robbers caught by residents in the wee hours of the day at Ekiugbo-Ughelli in Ughelli  North Local Government Area of Delta State.

www.bigpenngr.com understands that the suspects were lynched and burnt by mobs after they were caught in a breaking and entering incident in an apartment in Panama layout, Ekuigbo.

Sources disclosed that the incident happened at about 3:00am on Wednesday as the robbers made an attempt to break into their victim’s house.

It was gathered that in the process of breaking into the apartment, one of the suspects was apprehended by local security on guard while others flew into a nearby bush.
“The robbers were terrorising the community every now and then, this night (yesterday) they came at about 3:00am and one of them was apprehend and others ran into the nearby bush and in the morning youths of the community combed the bush and arrest one again in his hideout and was lynched to death”.

Local sources disclosed that suspected armed robbers have been terrorizing the area for months hence the suspects were not spared by the mob when they were caught.

The charred remains of the suspected robbers were still smoldering and sending thick smoke into the air when our Correspondent visited the scene.

Confirming the incident, the President General of Ekiugbo Ughelli community, Comrade Benard Baker, who regretted that the suspects were lynched, said that the community has in the past months been under siege of armed robbers who robbed their unsuspecting victims of their personal belongings.

He claimed that the deceased are among armed robbers terrorizing the area and environs of recent.

Baker disclosed further that just last month, the suspected robbers killed the head of vigilantes and one other in Panama layout in Ekiugbo-Ughelli and carted away the personal belongings of their victims.

Contacted on phone, the Delta State Police Public Relations, DSP Bright Edafe confirmed the incident but said that an offence of jungle justice was committed by those who mobbed the suspects.

Recall the State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ali, recently cautioned residents against carrying out jungle justice when suspects are held, saying “no one has the right to take laws into his or her hands, as anyone found culpable will face the full wrath of the law”.

The CP, however assured Deltans that the Command is determined to reduce crime to the barest level in the State, urging residents to trust the process and believe in the Command as criminal arrests will not go unpunished.
