Katsina State Constructs Grain Processing, Catering Service Unit

Katsina State government constructed a grain processing and catering service unit in Malumfashi Local Government Area of the state from its 2021 budget estimates.

Gov. Aminu Masari disclosed this while presenting the state’s 2022 budget estimates to the state’s House of Assembly on Friday in Katsina.

He said government had awarded a N46.6 million contract for the rehabilitation of the Unit.

He explained that “the project, which is about to be completed, will train youths and women to be self-employed.

He said 5,054 youths and women were also trained and empowered from the budget estimates.

“As we are all aware, one of the policies of the All Progressives Congress party administrations at the federal, state and local government levels is skills acquisition, training and empowerment programme.

“From inception of our administration to date, we have successfully designed and implemented various skills acquisition, training and empowerment programmes for youths and women.

“Under the Department of Skills Acquisition and Vocational Training, the government has trained 1,500 youths at Community Skills Development Centres.

“We have also trained 500 youths and women at Business Apprenticeship Training Centres on Skills Acquisition in various trades so as to become self-reliant.

“An apprenticeship training scheme tagged: “Master Crafts Person’’ workshops were organised in Katsina, Daura and Funtua Local Government Areas with about 2,104 persons benefiting,’’ Masari said.

According to the governor, the trainees were expected to acquire skills and establish small scale enterprises.

He added that about 950 unemployed youths had benefited from vocational agriculture skills training for self-reliance.

“The state government in collaboration with a consultancy firm and the 34 local government councils conducted the 10th Katsina State Annual Women Handicraft Exhibition.

“During the event, women and youths showcased and sold their handcraft items at the exhibition,’’ the governor said.
