It’s Official! ‘Calabar Explosion A Demolition Exercise’ – Nigerian Army

The Nigerian Army has said that explosions heard in Calabar, Cross River, was a demolition exercise by the Nigerian Army Ordinance Disposal Team.
Multiple reports say there was loud explosions that occurred intermittently at Eburutu Army barracks in Calabar, Cross River State capital.
The reports say though the cause of the explosion were unknown, the blast shattered roofs of buildings in adjoining settlements close to the barrack and window panes in some buildings pulled down
One source quoted in the reports, Ekong James, said that the roofs of buildings in the estate he resides were affected.
“The last one happened some two hours ago and I have pictures of roofs shattered by the explosions. Nobody has told us what happened”.
But the Army Public Relations Headquarters,13 Brigade Nigerian Army, in a press release dated Thursday, October 14, 2021, said that it had two days ago informed the general public of the demolition at the cantonment shooting range which it said was a routine exercise.
A statement by Dorcas Oluwatope Aluko, Captain Assistant, Army Public Relation 13 Brigade Nigerian Army, made available to BIGPENNGR on Friday night, said that the general public was urged before the exercise commenced not to panic but go about their lawful daily activities.
The statement reads; “The Nigerian Army explosive ordnance disposal team is slated to conduct its demolition exercise which is a routine in the Nigerian Army at the Eburutu Cantonment shooting Range in Calabar from 14-17 October 2021.
“Members of Ikot Effangha, Ikot Ansa, and Lemna communities are advised to stay off range area during the exercise.
“The general public is equally urged not to panic but go about their lawful daily activities”.
