Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has waded into the communal crises rocking some part of Isokoland, Delta State.

BIGPENNGR.COM reports that the planned intervention followed appeal from critical stakeholders with a recent one from an elite group, Isoko Monitoring Group (IMG).

Recall that some communities in Isoko, specifically Igbide and Emede Communities in Isoko South Council and Ozoro and Oleh have been at each other jugular following outbreak of communal crisis.

A statement by Omo-Agege’s Special Adviser on Legislative & Plenary Matters, Prince Efe Duku, on Tuesday said that the Deputy President of the Senate, has heeded the formal appeal by IMG to “step in and save the Isoko Nation from present and imminent danger”.

Specifically, IMG in a letter had called for the urgent intervention of the DSP to stop the widely reported bloody hostilities between the people of Igbide and Emede Communities in Isoko South Local Government Area.

The group, also seeks the DSP’s intervention in the haze of insecurity hovering over parts of Ozoro and Oleh – the headquarters of Isoko North and Isoko South Local Government Areas respectively.

Duku, in a statement conveying the deputy senate president’s resolved to intervene, said that the DSP agrees wholly with the IMG that the present state of insecurity in these Isoko communities is unfortunate, intolerable, and should be responsibly managed to attain sustainable peace.

“He (Omo-Agege) believes that responsible Delta leaders within and outside the Isoko Nation have a duty to ensure that our people do not embrace bloodletting as a solution to challenges” adding that violence and bloodletting bring no good gain for anyone in the end.

Expressing optimism that the vexed issues that led to the crises in the areas would be resolved, Prince Duku said that; “As a firm believer in our nation’s federal constitutional democratic governance structure, the DSP knows that the Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa as the Chief Security Officer of the State has huge responsibilities as far as the resolution of the issues is concerned.

He, however, prayed and encouraged Governor Okowa and his team to manage the causal factors of the problems and the resultant insecurity responsibly and effectively.

Omo-Agege, further assured the IMG, and indeed the Isoko Nation, that he has taken serious note of the concerns and suggestions and would take every lawful, necessary, and pragmatic step to contribute his quota to the peaceful settlement of the issues in the affected communities.

Duku added that the DSP was already considering an array of options to help restore peace to the areas.
