Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the Federal Government has finally okayed the January 18 schools resumption date earlier suggested.
BIGPEN reports that all schools in the country were shut from academic activities following the ravaging global pandemic, coronavirus which has killed many worldwide.
However, the federal government on Thursday reached a decision at a meeting of education stakeholders held in Abuja, the nation’s capital to reopen the schools for a date which was unanimously agreed upon today.
At the meeting with the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu were Commissioners of Education from various states of the federation, and other stakeholders.
BIGPEN understands the date was a consensus reached at the meeting.
The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Arc. Sonny Echono, who confirmed this, said “we had extensive discussions with state governors, proprietors of schools, labour/staff unions and students’ representatives over the matter”.
He however said “the reopening of schools will be in compliance with COVID-19 protocols, especially strict adherence to non-pharmaceutical procedures”.
