How Oshiomhole Cheated Death As Truck Rams Into His Convoy

A former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, on Tuesday cheated death in an accident that claimed the lives of two escort policemen attached to him.

The accident which occurred  in the afternoon took place at the popular Benin-Lagos bypass before Oluku junction as Oshiomhole was on his way for a scheduled APC governorship campaign tour at Usen in Ovia local government of Edo State.

The scheduled APC governorship campaign rally is ahead of the September 19, 2020 governorship election in Edo State. Eye-witness accounts said Oshiomhole escaped but two of his police escorts attached to the convoy died while two others sustained injuries during the incident.

One account narrated it thus: ”Comrade’s (Oshiomhole) convoy was heading for Usen where Comrade (Oshiomhole )was expected to speak at a campaign rally along with APC governorship candidate,. Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, when a trailer driving in the same direction veered off Its course, and hit the back-up Toyota Hilux carrying seven policemen, forcing it off the road into the bush and rammed into the Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) carrying Comrade Oshiomhole, causing substantial damage.  Luckily, Comrade  and other persons in the convoy, apart from those indicated above, did not sustain any injury.”

According to report in The New Diplomat checks reveal that following this unpleasant development, the campaign rally at Usen was immediately called off. In a statement by the APC, the party said it is full of condolences  for the  families of victims, saying they were not alone in the grief.

Similarly,  the PDP governorship candidate and governor of Edo state, Mr Godwin Obaseki who expressed shock over the sad news and sent condolences to Oshiomhole and Ize-Iyamu over the lives lost.

In a statement, the governor  who also commiserated with the families of the victims of the crash, prayed God  to grant them the fortitude to bear the loss of their treasured bread winners and loved ones.

“I received the news of the accident with shock and commiserate with the former governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and the candidate of the APC in the forthcoming governorship election, Osagie Ize-Iyamu over the very unfortunate incident involving their security aides and top chieftains of the party in the campaign team,” Obaseki said.

He added, “While we pray for strength for the families of the deceased persons, we also pray for the quick recovery of those who were injured and are receiving treatment.”
