Assailant Blows Up Community Chairman With Dynamite In Delta

Agrarian community of Agadama in Uwheru Kingdom, Ughelli North local government area of Delta State was on Friday thrown into sad mood as yet-to-be identified assailant believed to be a Fulani Herdsman, allegedly killed the community chairman, Sunday Iniovogoma.

The assailant reportedly blew up the community chairman with a dynamite that exploded and shook the foundation of houses in the community.

Sources from the family who confirmed the blast which destroyed part of the chairman’s house, disclosed that the assailant gain entry into his room through his children’s apartment while he was taking his siesta.

The source said that the late chairman attacker detonated the explosive device through the window of the house while he was sleeping and blast his face, hands and legs.

Part of the building was also shattered. 

It would be recalled that the late chairman, played an active role in the campaign against armed Fulani herdsmen who killed ten farmers in the community in February.

A source who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the incident occurred at about 12:30p.m on Friday, adding that some other persons whom were around the house when the explosion occurred also sustained some degrees of injuries.

Giving details of the incident, the source said: “He was sleeping in his bedroom inside his house when the blast occurred.

“It appears that the perpetrators of the act apparently threw the dynamite into his bedroom while he was sleeping and exploded damaging part of the building and killed the chairman at the spot.”

State Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Onome Onowakpoyeya could not be reach immediately to confirmed the incident but police officers from Ughelli Area Command who preferred anonymity confirmed it.

Meanwhile, hundreds of commuters travelling to riverine communities in Bomadi, Burutu local government areas of Delta State and parts of Bayelsa State were on Friday stranded as youths from Agadama community barricaded the Uwheru/Bomadi East –West road in protest of the death of the chairman.

The youths who also destroyed windscreens of some vehicles later left the road following the arrival of a team of policemen mobilized from “A” Division Ughelli to restore calm to the area.

The remains of the late Agadama community chairman has since been deposited at the mortuary at the General hospital Ughelli.
